Toothache that won't settle
Pain that throbs, lingers after a cold drink or wakes you at night usually means the nerve is inflamed. It rarely settles on its own and is worth having checked quickly.
Urgent dental helpA broken or chipped tooth
Surf boards, reef breaks and scooter falls are common causes in Bali. Save any pieces, rinse gently and cover sharp edges until you can be seen.
What to do firstA lost filling or crown
The tooth underneath can feel sharp and sensitive. A lost crown can often be re-cemented, and a filling can be replaced or temporarily sealed.
About fillingsOverdue for a check-up and clean
Long trips and remote work make it easy to miss your usual visit. A check-up and scale and polish can usually be done together in one appointment.
About check-upsWisdom tooth pain
Swelling and pain around a back tooth is often pericoronitis, an infection around a partly erupted wisdom tooth. Repeated flare-ups may mean it should come out.

Planning Dental Care in Bali
A few things are worth knowing before you see a dentist in Bali, whether you're here for a week or living in Badung Regency. Appointment times are in WITA (Central Indonesia Time).
Check the dentist is licensed
Every dentist practising in Indonesia should hold an STR (Surat Tanda Registrasi, the registration certificate) and an SIP (Surat Izin Praktik, the licence to practise at that clinic). It's fine to ask to see both. Many dentists are also members of PDGI, the Indonesian Dental Association.
Allow enough days for treatment
A check-up, clean or filling is usually one visit. A root canal can take one to three visits, and a crown usually needs two visits several days apart, so start multi-visit treatment early in your stay.
Plan around your flight
After fillings and most root canal visits, flying the next day is usually fine. After an extraction, follow your dentist's advice and avoid diving until you've healed. Leave a spare day before you fly out of Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS).
Keep papers for your insurer
Many travel policies cover emergency pain relief up to a limit but not routine or cosmetic work. For a travel insurance dental claim, keep an itemised invoice, proof of payment, treatment notes and any X-rays.
English-language dental care
Explaining symptoms in a second language is stressful when you're in pain. Every page on this site is written in plain English, and dental terms are explained the first time they appear. The clinic's languages will be listed once confirmed.
Patients Travelling from Across Bali
Patients travel to the clinic from these areas. Each page has local travel tips and the dental questions people there ask most.

Questions About Seeing a Dentist in Bali
How do I request a dentist appointment in Bali?
Use the appointment request form: choose your treatment or concern, add your preferred day and time, and tick 'urgent' if you are in pain. The clinic then contacts you to confirm the appointment.
What counts as a dental emergency?
Severe or worsening toothache, a knocked-out or badly broken tooth, swelling in the gum or face, and bleeding that won't stop all need same-day care. Spreading facial swelling, fever, or trouble breathing or swallowing need a hospital emergency department first.
What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?
Pick the tooth up by the crown, not the root, rinse it briefly without scrubbing, and put it back in the socket if you can or keep it in milk or saliva. Get to a dentist as fast as possible, ideally within an hour.
How can I check that a dentist in Indonesia is licensed?
Ask for the dentist's STR (registration certificate) and SIP (licence to practise at that clinic). Licensed dentists can provide both, and many are also members of PDGI, the Indonesian Dental Association.
Does travel insurance cover dental treatment in Bali?
Many travel policies cover emergency pain relief up to a set limit but not routine or cosmetic work. Keep an itemised invoice, proof of payment, treatment notes and any X-rays to make your claim.
How many days do I need in Bali for dental treatment?
A check-up, clean or filling usually takes one visit. A root canal takes one to three visits and a crown usually takes two visits several days apart, so leave spare days before your flight.
Can I fly after dental treatment?
After most routine treatment, including fillings and root canals, flying the next day is usually fine. After an extraction or surgery, follow your dentist's advice and avoid diving until the area has healed.
How much does a dentist cost in Bali?
The cost depends on the treatment, the materials used and the number of visits. Always ask for a written, itemised quote before treatment starts. Each treatment page explains the factors that affect the price.
